How long can you stay in Germany?
Germany is in the Schengen Area, so visa-exempt visitors can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. That allowance is shared with every other Schengen country — it is not a fresh German quota.
Pick a single date if you are still there.

Days by country
German days count toward all of Schengen
Days in Berlin or Munich draw on the same 90-day Schengen budget as days in Spain or Greece. Combine every Schengen day across the trip — crossing from France into Germany does not reset the count.
How to count your days in Germany
Count both the arrival and departure days in full, and total every present day in the current rolling 180-day window. Use the calculator above to do it from your trip dates.
Staying in Germany longer than 90 days
- Freelance residence permit (Freiberufler) — popular with self-employed creatives and IT workers, especially in Berlin.
- EU Blue Card — for qualified professionals with a job offer.
- Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) — a points-based route to look for work.
Requirements and permit types change; confirm with the German missions or the Ausländerbehörde. This is general information, not legal advice.
